Breastfeeding Discrimination

I just wanted to bring everyone’s attention to some breastfeeding discrimination that recently happened north of Toronto in the city of Newmarket, Ontario.  A nursing mother was told to breastfeed in a change room at the Aquacentre, a private swimming pool where she attends with her children.  When she attempted to tell the owner of the facility, Ms. Ellie Kar, that the Ontario Human Rights Code prohibited breastfeeding discrimination, her information was not well received and she was still told to stop breastfeeding or to breastfeed in a change room.

On Friday, November 7th at 2:30 PM there will be a peaceful nurse-in at the Aquacentre.  As it is a private facility, there is a charge of $5.25 per swimmer.

The location is 1215 Stellar Drive, Newmarket, ON near highway 404 and Davis Drive.  The phone number is 905 895 2782 and they can be reached via email at if you would like to send them any comments.

Please come out to this event to fight against nursing discrimination if you live in the area or send emails to the facility to let them know that you will not stand for this sort of treatment of nursing mothers.
